For those of you who are unaware of this:
You can totally get boxes from the USPS for FREE.  As many as you want.  They will ship them to you all wrapped up and beautiful.  I don’t currently have a need for many small/medium sized boxes.  But some day I might.  And this is where I will get them!

One frustrating thing about not being religious
What do I tell someone when one of their loved ones has just died?  Everyone else can say that they’re going to pray for the family; it is a thoughful gesture.  I could always offer to help with something or bring over food, but what about when that isn’t really an option, due to distance either geographically or socially?  What the hell kind of thougtful gesture am I left with?

Product placement time!
If you like your facial moisturizer with SPF, I must recommend Olay Complete (all day moisture lotion SPF 15).  It’s actually NOT GREASY.

“When I was young I took much trouble to acquire a style; I used to go to the British Museum and note down the names of rare jewels so that I might give my prose magnificence, and I used to go to the Zoo and observe the way an eagle looked, or linger on a cab rank to see how a horse champed so that I might on occasion use a nice metaphor; I made lists of unusual adjectives so that I might...

Things that made my day today a good one:
1.  Two squirrels, two different breakfast foods.  One was munching on half a pop tart up in a tree branch (looking very smug may I say), the other was scrambling around with a raggedy bagel. 2.  An older couple (40s, 50s?) kayaking on the Red Ceder River.  I was crossing the bridge and they were smiling and enjoying themselves.  I waved but I don’t think they saw me. 3.  When I was...

Some days I crave avocado.
There is nothing in the world right now that I want more.  OH. (Maybe avocados are replacing bacon as the craveable item?  Is that even possible?)

I have finally regained control of my school email...
I have a tendency to not check it for long periods of time.  I’m always afraid that I will get sent terrible news; expulsion, for example.  Or that one of my professors will email me about how much they hate me.  Or something equally unpleasant.  Even though there is absolutely no reason for me to be kicked out of school, and most of my professors have no idea who I am. I think I might make...

I was at Macy's yesterday.
And they were handing out cookies.  And what looked like little fancy coconut drinks!  Department stores should be required to serve snacks.  It would keep morale up among shoppers.  No, you couldn’t fit into the pair of jeans you really wanted, but here is tiny and adorable treat to make you feel better and give you the energy to keep shopping! (This wasn’t quite as good as when I...

I went to see Hamlet this summer and realized that...
oomb: Laertes: […] Then weigh what loss your honor may sustain, If with too credent ear you list his songs, Or lose your heart, or your chaste treasure open, To his unmaster’d importunity. Fear it, Ophelia, fear it, my dear sister, And keep you in the rear of your affection, Out of the shot and danger of desire. (I.III.29-35) Right? He’s definitely saying “Do it in the butt, so you won’t get...

I used to tell myself that I read books so that I might better understand people.  But I don’t read books about every kind of person - rather, if I can’t relate to one of the main characters I loose interest.  It was only after I finished Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World that I had a certain realization: I read books about people that I can relate to so that I am better...

It’s so full of little bits of wisdom I’ve been marking almost every page. How did I ever think this book was boring? It’s ridiculously beautiful. And to think I could have gone my whole life never reading anything by Maugham.

This is the best explanation of Somerset Maugham:
“Once, when I was younger, I thought I could be someone else. I’d move to Casablanca, open a bar, and I’d meet Ingrid Bergman. Or more realistically - whether actually more realistic or not - I’d tune in on a better life, something more suited to my true self. Toward that end, I had to undergo training. I read The Greening of America, and I saw Easy Rider three times. But...

I have trouble communicating.
Some days I hate being a girl, for reasons that have nothing to do with menstruation.  Feelings that I might not have if I were a man, or if I were someone bolder; they leave me feeling so absurd.
