In Which Rodin Distinguishes Himself From Ordinary... →
thisrecording: It is wonderful to pass slowly round this marble, to follow the long, long way which passes from the full, rich curve of the back to the face losing itself in the stone as if in a great weeping.  I think that poetry and sculpture are two of my top favorite things of all time. karnythia: Why Hollywood keeps whitewashing the past crystalsavestheday: “This isn’t the story of beleaguered domestics standing up for themselves during a time of American apartheid. It’s the story of a perky proto-feminist writer (Emma Stone’s “Skeeter” Phelan) cajoling black women into standing up for themselves by telling her their stories and letting her publish them in book form. It’s...

marxisforbros: internerd: Cop Rapes Woman at Gunpoint, 11-Year-Old Rape Victim Smeared, Accuser Sued for $2 Million: Is US Society Failing Victims? If events of the last few months have sent any sort of message to women in America it’s this: if you’re raped or sexually assaulted, justice won’t be on your side. Lazy Self-Indulgent Book Reviews: And This is Why... →
lazybookreviews: We live in a country which is slowly clawing back our reproductive rights, under the guise of granting civil liberties to fetuses, when, currently, we guarantee the rights of DEAD PEOPLE to not give their life-saving organs to the living over the rights of…the living who need that organ. Not the…

But then my dad decided that it would be too expensive for us to both go and went by himself. I just got off the phone talking to him and it sounds AMAZING. Plus seeing all of Sara Zucker’s posts about going… It would have been the only cool part of my job. Dammit.

shebs: As audiences continue to debate whether The Help is an inadequate racial drama or a crowd-pleasing discussion starter, Treme actor Wendell Pierce has joined the fray. “The movie The Help was painful to watch,” he tweeted last night. “This passive segregation lite was hurtful.” Pierce went to a screening with his mother, who told her son for the first time that she, too, had once been “the...

ahuntersheart: David Baker: You’ve said now two or three times, as a poem comes to you, that you will hear the poem. What do you hear? W. S. Merwin: At some point Yeats one day heard, “That is no country for old men.” David Baker: He heard it intact. W. S. Merwin: Yes, just like that. And they were words which he’d used all his life. He may have even heard that phrase all his life. Never...
